Dear participants and speakers,
We are delighted to welcome you at the University Medical Center Groningen and proud that we were chosen to host the 25th edition of the European Course of Plastic Surgery. And rightly so – Groningen and the UMCG have so much to offer!
One of the most important things you need to know about Groningen is that it is the happiest city in the Netherlands, and an example region in the field of Active & Healthy Ageing! A remarkable ninety-seven percent of the population is satisfied with life here in Groningen. And according to the European Commission, the North-Netherlands is one of the top regions when it comes to Active & Healthy Ageing. So in short, you not only have a good chance of being happy in Groningen, but also of growing old healthily!
The UMCG is one of largest teaching hospitals in the Netherlands and employs more than twelve thousand staff to work on patient care, pioneering scientific research and innovative education.
We are helping to build the future of healthcare for the three-and-a-half million people living in the north of the Netherlands. Our focus is on Healthy Ageing: how can we make sure that people continue to stay healthy and play an active role in society? Therefore we study the causes of ageing and provide people with information about health, prevention and quality of life.
But the main reason for you to visit us will be of course the excellent program professor Paul Werker and his team have put together. I would like to wish you all the very best at this conference and hope that your time in the UMCG, and in Groningen, will be a source of inspiration!

Welcome to Groningen. We are happy to host the European Course of Plastic Surgery. The University Medical Center Groningen has a long tradition of high quality medical education, both in undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs.
Nowadays, medical specialists are not just high qualified professionals, but also experts in many other areas that are relevant for being a good doctor. The new CanMEDS 2015 model, with its 7 characteristics of the good doctor and the prominent place for the doctor as leader, fits with the idea that doctors play a crucial role in finding the answers to the many questions regarding health care needs at a global level. Consequently, the content of medical training programs should adapt to the health care questions of the 21st century more or less continuously. I hope your conference will contribute to this topic. Furthermore, I wish you a pleasant stay in Groningen!

Dean of Education

Plastic surgery is a superspecialty that is involved in many, often multidisciplinary, treatments.
A basic requirement for a plastic surgeon is excellent knowledge of the various fields and subfields we are involved in. The EBOPRAS exam is and should be considered as a key ingrediënt to achieve just these goals. The exam results in better outcome for patients and better collaboration between specialities. The European Course act as an excellent preparative course for this exam.
Prof Paul Werker has an impressive group of international experts ready for you to benefit from. Participant will learn and become experts on the various subjects that are taught aiming to provide and share up to date knowledge. The Dutch Society of Plastic Surgery is proud that the Netherlands is hosting this important event and endorses it.
